Paul Sawyier was an artist known for his Kentucky landscapes. This extensive file, compiled by Kentucky geologist and historian Willard R. Jillson (1890-1975), includes nine notebooks of biographical material and manuscripts relating to them, along with correspondence between Jillson and members of Sawyier's family and friends, original letters from Sawyier, material relating to his sweetheart Mayme Bull, and a contract between Sawyier and C. F. Brower and Company of Lexington regarding the sale of his watercolor work. Also among the papers are photographs of Sawyier's especially significant work, with documentation of the paintings and their owners, and primary source material including photographs of Sawyier and his family, and a scrapbook compiled by Mayme Bull.
