Scope and Content

This document, dated May 10, 1849, transfers ownership of "two negro boys" from Edmund Burrus of Mercer County, Kentucky, to his son, William P. Burrus, for $5 and the "consideration of natural Love & affection". The boys, Henry, aged about thirteen, and James Silas, about three years old, were worth $400 in the elder Burrus' estimation.
