Soldier, abolitionist, diplomat, and author. Includes letters, pamphlets of speeches, addresses, newspaper clippings, and a biographical sketch of his father, Green Clay. Letters include discussions on human rights, abolition of slavery, preservation of the Union, national and state politics, Clay's service as minister to Russia, personal and routine matters, and some reminiscences
