Biography/History

Governor Thomas E. Bramlette served in office from 1863-1867 as a Democrat. Originally from Cumberland County, KY, Bramlette resided in Jefferson County. His occupation was a Lawyer and a Judge. Thomas E. Bramlette was serving as a General in the Union Army when nominated for Governor. In office, Governor Bramlette opposed the restrictive policies of the federal government in Kentucky. As a reprieve, in 1865, he granted a general pardon to those indicted for treason in the state.
