Scope and Content

Aviation cadet during World War II. Correspondence, 1943 Jan.-1944 Jan., between Stivers and his family. Letters examine the life of an aviation cadet during World War II. Correspondence focuses on Stiver's loneliness and isolation from his family and girlfriend as well as his desire to be a pilot. Letters discuss his physical training, flying lessons and academic studies at various bases in Tex., Okla., and Kan.; and describe the importance of letters from home and what soldiers do in their free time.
