Scope and Content

This group contains a land grant, dated July 24, 1849, issued to Litterell by Governor John J. Crittenden for 105 acres of land in Carter County, Kentucky. There is also a copy of a clerk's certificate issued in Carter County for recording of the deed to the land.

An apparently unrelated document, also from Carter County, commands the sheriff to collect $56 from the estate of Elizabeth Rice. This document was dated August 10, 1858. A letter concerning the provenance of these items is also present.
