Biography/History

Bishop Lewis William Burton was the first Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky, which was organized in 1896. He resigned his post at the Diocese in 1928. His father, Lewis Burton, Sr., was a Reverend at St. John's Parish in Cleveland, Ohio, a position that Bishop Burton later acquired. Burton had two sisters, Mrs. A.B. Leslie and Mrs. E.J. Backus, who were active members of the Women's Auxiliary Diocese of Ohio.

Scope and Content

The Burton family scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings and church programs that chronicle the lives of the Burton family members, including Lewis Burton, Sr. and his children, Lewis William Burton, Mrs. A.B. Leslie, and Mrs. E.J. Backus. Materials record events in St. John's Parish, St. Mark's Parish, the Diocese of Lexington, and the Women's Auxiliary Diocese of Ohio.
