Scope and Content

The Louisville Railway Company was formed in 1890 by the merger of two earlier streetcar lines. It operated streetcars in Louisville and Jefferson County until 1948. Ernest Gibson, who assembled this collection, was a long-time motorman for the line and an avid rail fan and collector. The collection consists of photographic prints, roll-film negatives, photocopies, and typed captions. Also included are 184 scale drawings of Louisville Railway Company cars, seventy-two blueprint reproductions of scale drawings of Louisville Railway Company cars, and thirty assorted issues of Trolley Times magazine.
