This collection consists of Berea College records and records of the Village of Berea Board of Trustees.
College materials include a Music Department record of assignments (1891 - 1913); records of a campus organization, the Anti-Tobacco League, also known as the No-Tobacco League (1919 - 1930); and a senior class minute book from the Berea Academy (1921 - 1931). Also present is a ledger (ca. 1906 - 1909) used to record pledges to the Adjustment Fund, which was established to compensate white students for monies lost through Berea's establishment of the Lincoln Institute, a separate school for blacks. The ledger records pledges from individuals and their addresses; entries for blacks and whites are separate. A Village of Berea Board of Trustees minute book (1890 - 1908) is also included.
These materials were transferred to Special Collections from the Frost Building which formerly housed the College library. On processing, a portion will form discrete collections within Historical Collections, while other records will be placed in the Berea College Archives.
Materials are restricted until processing is completed.
