Governor J. Proctor Knott served in office from 1883-1887 as a Democratic Party affiliate. Originally from Marion County, KY, Knott continued to reside in that county. His occupation was a Lawyer. J. Proctor Knott served six terms in the U.S. Congress from 1867-1883. As Governor, Knott achieved some success with tax reform and state finances. J. Proctor Knott was also the first Dean of the Law Department at Centre College in 1894.
