Biography/History

Governor Preston H. Leslie served in office from 1871-1875 as a Democrat. Originally from Wayne County, KY, Leslie resided in Barren County. His occupation was a Lawyer and a Farmer. Preston H. Leslie succeeded to office upon the resignation of Governor Stevenson. During Leslie's term as Governor, he proposed strict measures to stop mob violence of the "Regulators." After leaving office, Leslie was appointed territorial Governor of Montana in 1887.
