Handwritten on verso, "The penny lunch being served at Maddoxtown Colored School six miles from Lexington, Fayette County Kentucky. The majority of colored school in this county have regularly equipped kitchens. It is a windy day, Mrs. Nannie G. Faulconer, Superintendent inspecting."
