Scope and Content

The proclamation was issued by Governor Montfort Stokes of North Carolina on July 1, 1831, to honor Revolutionary War soldiers from Mecklenburg and Cumberland counties, North Carolina. The document, bearing Stokes' signature, was sent to Governor Thomas Metcalfe of Kentucky.
