[Identification of item], R. B. McIlvaine Letter, 1832, 91SC29,Library Special Collections and Archives, Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort.
A citation from a July, 1942 article in the REGISTER OF THE KENTUCKY HISTORICAL SOCIETY named B. Reed McIlvaine as a partner of Charles Wilkins of Lexington, Kentucky.
This letter, dated November 28, 1832, was written by R.B. McIlvaine from Louisville to G.W. Hawkins of Paris, Kentucky, concerning the sale of sugar. A note with the letter suggests some background information on McIlvaine. This note identified McIlvaine as a former resident of Burlington, New Jersey. It said he married Catherine Dumesnil of Lexington and soon moved to New York. The note later stated that McIlvaine (using that spelling) lived in Louisville and that he married Catherine, the daughter of Anthony Dumesnil, a Lexington jeweler, June 2, 1824.
Originally from the C. Frank Dunn Collection.
County: Jefferson; Bourbon
