Soldier with the 2nd Illinois Cavalry Regiment during the Civil War. Letters report Fortiner's activities with the 2nd Illinois Cavalry Regiment along the Ohio-Mississippi Rivers corridor, with stops at Fort Holt, Ky., Union City, Fort Pillow, and Memphis, Tenn., and New Madrid, Mo.
