Governor William Owsley served in office from 1844-1848 as a Whig party affiliate. Originally from Virginia, Owsley resided in Lincoln County, KY. His occupation was a Lawyer and a Judge. As a Judge he represented the "Old Court" during Old Court/New Court controversy. The Mexican War was fought during Governor Owsley's administration. Although Owsley not an advocate of the war, he quickly sent troops when called upon.
