Scope and Content

This letter was written June 12, 1849 by Governor Helm during his term as lieutenant governor under John J. Crittenden. The letter, written from Elizabethtown, was addressed to John Lane, "Marshall Shelbyville Ky" and concerned future appointments of deputy marshals to take the census. Helm recommended James Neal for Hart County.
