Scope and Content

This collection consists of items created and collected by the Vertrees family of Kentucky and their allied families: Partee, Wrather, and Clarkson. items, dated between ca. 1854 to ca. 1979, include books, family photographs, Georgetown College programs, letters, certificate of allegiance, receipts, invoices, ledgers, catalogs, yearbooks, sermon notebooks, Vertrees family bible, and autograph books. Names represented in this collection are James Partee, S.W. Wrather, W.W. Vertrees, Glovie Vertrees, Inez Vertrees, Henry Vertrees, Bernice Shacklett, Ruben Clarkson, Ed Wrather, Mary and Henry Chelf, Hallie Wrather Chelf, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Richardson, Laura Clarkson Caldwell, Guy Ditto, and John Kohl. Corporate names include Georgetown College, Vine Grove Roller Mill, Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, Weavers Business College, Herring-Jenkins and Co., Sears, and Montgomery Ward. The books in this collection were written by Kentucky authors and concern Kentucky subjects.
