Biography/History

Governor Robert P. Letcher served in office from 1840-1844 as a Whig Party affiliate. Originally from Virginia, Letcher resided in Garrard County, KY. His occupation was a Lawyer. Robert P. Letcher took office in the midst of an economic depression and left the state in recovery by end of his term. Governor Letcher was a strong supporter of Henry Clay, and also served as ambassador to Mexico, 1849-1852.
