This collection consists of photocopies of nine letters and one note, dated 1863-1870, once belonging to Ratchford Valentine of Petersburg, Pike County, Indiana. The 1863 note concerns debt owed by Valentine to David Wilson. The letters, dated 1865-1870, were written to Valentine from relatives in Kentucky. An 1865 letter from Eromia Kate Nett in Newburg, Jefferson County, Kentucky, concerns the migration of neighbors to Illinois and also mentions guerillas passing through the area. Other letters were written by Julia, James, and Benjamin Nett and convey family news.
