Biography/History

Governor John Y. Brown served in office from 1891-1895 as a Democratic Party affiliate. Originally from Hardin County, KY, Brown resided in Henderson County. His occupation was a Lawyer. John Y. Brown was the first Governor to serve under new the Constitution. In office, he faced conflicts with the legislature and with corporate interests. Governor Brown unsuccessfully ran for Governor again in 1899.
