Rodney Williams graduated from Valley High School before attending University of Louisville. He received a bachelor's degree in 1965 and continued on to receive a J.D. from U of L in 1968. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and was president of the U of L Interfraternity Council, 1964-65. As a law school student, he served as president of the Student Senate. He practiced law from 1968 until 1977, when he became Director of Alumni Services at the University, a position that he held until 1996. Williams died in 2003, at the age of 59.
The Rodney Williams scrapbooks consist of eleven scrapbooks and a package of loose photographs. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, programs, menus, small publications, artwork, varsity letters and pins, and various other types of ephemera. The earliest material consists of report cards Williams received in grade school, and is very limited. The bulk of the collection begins in 1955, and covers events, people, and organizations he encountered in high school and beyond. The scrapbooks dealing with his high school, college, and law school days document events occurring on and off-campus, as well as his own life and achievements. Other scrapbooks, such as the Heritage Corporation scrapbook and the City of Louisville 1976 Bicentennial parade scrapbooks, cover specific events or organizations. The titles given to the scrapbooks in this finding aid were taken from post-it notes applied to the scrapbooks. This collection originally included yearbooks and alumni/alumnae directories, as well as loose ephemeral materials, which were dispersed to other collections.
