This collection consists of items concerning the Gholson family of McCracken County, Kentucky. Materials, dated 1764-1896, include photostatic copies of the 1764 will of Jane Gholson; Jacob J. Gholson's 1837 affidavit and power-of-attorney from Nacagdoches, Texas; an 1838 record from William Gholson's Revolutionary War pension file; and a Truman family bible record. Other items are a promissory note dated 1768 from Ludwell Grymes and Zachariah Burnley of Orange County, Virginia, to Samuel Rice; survey notice of R.D. Gholson; an 1854 letter from W.S. Gholson in Cooper County, Missouri, to his brother and sister in Kentucky; an 1862 oath of allegiance to the United States signed by William Hobby and denying loyalty to the Confederacy; various receipts and notes; photographs and negatives of the Gholson family.
