Biography/History

Elizabeth Watts came to Hindman from New York in 1909, intending to stay only one year. Instead, she served successively as teacher, principal, and director for forty-seven years, and was on the School's governing board for thirty years. Most of these photographs were taken by Watts.

Scope and Content

These depict Hindman Settlement School and the surrounding area.

Included are photographs of faculty, staff, and students; buildings; student activities and industries; and the town of Hindman and the surrounding area. An album depicting the creation of the school and the Hindman community is also included.
