Scope and Content

This collection consists mostly of genealogical papers created by Allen Earl Meacham on families in Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee. Included is Meacham's extensive research on the Lee family of Virginia and Kentucky. A March, 1962, newspaper article written for the The News-Herald in Owenton, Kentucky, and entitled, "The Lee Clan," is also included as well as letters written by Meacham between 1960 and 1975 to family, friends, and historical societies concerning his genealogical research. This collection also includes his personal account, written in 1975, of the Battle of Surigao Strait while serving on the U.S.S. Phoenix during World War II. An article from the Arizona Days and Ways Magazine, Dec. 5, 1965, concerns the U.S.S. Phoenix and her men in World War II. This collection also contains photocopies of the records on the military service of Charles Neal, private in the 1st Regiment Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia, War of 1812, and photographs of Meacham's family and Lee family houses.

Arrangement: Correspondence is arranged chronologically; other subgroups consist of genealogy, clippings, and miscellaneous writings.
