Scope and Content

This collection contains a 1787 bond given by Ballard Smith to William Buckner and James Knox for debt of 167 pounds, fourteen shillings, and a 1788 document certifying a land grant to Smith for 40,000 acres on the waters of the Rockcastle River in Lincoln County. Smith was identified as a resident of Jefferson County on the bond.

These papers may possibly be related to papers of William Taylor at the Kentucky Historical Society.
