Scope and Content

This details the planning and administration of research studies done by Southern Appalachian Studies and principally includes correspondence of Willis D. Weatherford, Sr. as Director of Administration, and Howard W. Beers and later Thomas R. Ford as Directors of General Research.

Correspondence of SAS staff with researchers details planning of individual projects. Correspondents include Perley F. Ayer, Earl D. C. Brewer, and Terry Sanford, among others. Administrative Secretary Elizabeth Wyckoff's correspondence (1.2 l.f.) forms a sizable portion of the series. Also present are clippings, drafts of reports or studies, and recordings (5 audiotapes) of a planning conference held on June 6, 1959.
