The following letter from Jefferson, appealing f or assistance o n b ehalf o f his children in Slavery, was p eculiarly touching, as were a l l s imilar letters. But the mournful thought that these appeals, sighs, tears and prayers would continue in most cases to be made t i l l d eath, that nothing could be done directly for the deliverance o f s uch sufferers was often as p ainful as the escape from the auction block was g ratifying.
