Robert Patterson was one of the founders of Lexington, Kentucky. In 1779 he lead an expedition to build a garrison in Lexington and it was there that he built a cabin that was to become known as the "first house built in Lexington." He was also involved in the settlement of Cinncinati. He was active in city and state politics, and was one of the first trustees of Transylvania University. He moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1803 where he died in 1827. Sometime after his death, Patterson's descendents moved the cabin he had built from Lexington to Dayton. In the late 1930s the "first house built in Lexington" was returned to the city for permanent preservation.

Scope and Content

This is a collection of materials related to Robert Patterson. Present are legal documents including his will (1827) and a trustees deed to Lexington which names Patterson, Robert Todd, Samuel Blair, John Coburn, Robert Barr, James Parker, and Robert Parker as trustees. |b Information regarding the Patterson cabin, its removal to Dayton, Ohio, and subsequent return to Lexington are also present. Additional items include a guest book from the cabin (1930-1957) and photographs.
