Scope and Content

This collection contains over seventy titles of popular cheap fiction with extensive runs of Beadle's Dime Novels, Nick Carter Weekly, New Magnet Library, Fame and Fortune Weekly, Deadwood Dick, Wide Awake, Happy Days, Buffalo Bills' Wild West Weekly, Old Cap Colliers, and many others of the genre. Dime novels and story papers, distinguished by their size and number and position of illustrations, were written for a young, working class audience. Sometimes lurid and always filled with adventure, they promoted ideals of hard work and individual achievement.
