Governor George Madison served in office for only a brief time as a Jeffersonian Republican, dying shortly after his inauguration in 1816. Originally from Virginia, he resided in Franklin County, KY. His occupations were as a Soldier and Public Servant, serving as Auditor of Public Accounts from 1796-1816. George Madison was the first Governor to die in office.
Governor Madison died one month after taking office; this volume also contains entries of Governor Slaughter, his successor.
