These are oral interviews (ca. 100 audiotapes) on various programs, conferences, or performances relating generally to Berea College or to Appalachia.
Examples of recordings include: recordings of an Appalachian Development Conference (1964); various speeches or interviews with Perley F. Ayer, former head of the Council of the Southern Mountains; recordings of commencement exercises; student interviews for oral history courses taught by Berea history professor Richard B. Drake; and recordings of speeches by President Francis S. Hutchins. Oral history interviews deal topically with Appalachia and the history of Berea College.
Various Berea College staff have been involved in the creation of these tapes, although finding aids may not indicate the provenance of individual tapes. Infrequently, transcriptions of recordings or interviews may be available.
Individual tapes may have restrictions. Release forms are not available for most interviews.
